EX VOTOS AND NAIF PAINTING

I paint EX - VOTOS.
Ex-Voto is the Latin word for votive offering, meaning "out of promise or vow".
They are popular, naive paintings. In Mexico, ex-votos are traditionally painted on tin, paper or wood among other media and they are expressions of gratitude to God, the Virgin or Saints for miracles, gifts or favors received . Their main themes are healing, being saved from a danger or accident, being out of jail, etc. Ex-votos tell the story and explanation about the divine favor involved. They are left at the church as altarpieces.
Thus, although ex-votos are public art usually they tell a poignant personal - even intimate - story.
In my work I have tried to reenact the spirit of ex-votos, adding a little humor and irony. I hope you will enjoy them.
If you are interested in my work, please, post a comment and contact me.

Also you can see here some of my naifs painting.
This one is Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of Fortune. She personifies wealth, loveliness and grace. Lakshmi is a contradictory person, since she is associated whit transcendence an spiritual perfection, despite she has a reputation of fickleness and inconstancy.
